Our old friend Willie Nelson, America's most beloved marijuana smoker, has recorded a number of NORML public service announcements (PSA). We have been sending these spots as PSAs to many radio stations across the country with the request that they schedule them for free airtime. The announcements, similar to the paid spots we ran in New Mexico in 2001, call for an end to the arrest of responsible marijuana smokers and direct listeners to our web site and to our toll-free number.
If you can help us get these Willie Nelson/NORML PSAs played on radio stations in your area, let us know and we'll send you a copy on CD at our cost ($4.00 each). It's an exciting opportunity to get the truth out about NORML and the need to end marijuana prohibition, and to counter the anti-marijuana propaganda campaign sponsored by the Drug Czar's office.
If your local radio stations refuse to play the Willie Nelson/NORML spots as free public service ads, you might consider raising the money to buy some airtime. Thirty-second radio spots can cost as little as $5.00 each, depending on the size of the market.
In March of 2001 we produced a two-week campaign of NORML radio spots in the state of New Mexico. These spots were intended to help build public support for Governor Gary Johnson's call to legalize marijuana. The spots, which ran approximately 150 times on two Albuquerque stations (KZRR-FM and KKOB AM) and one Santa Fe station (KBAC-AM), asked listeners to visit the NORML web site or call our toll-free telephone number (888-67-NORML), where they were encouraged to contact their state and federal elected officials and to offer their support to the newly established New Mexico NORML group.
