Country Man
Willie Nelson's new album

NORML's long-time supporter and Advisory Board member, and possibly America's most famous and beloved cannabis smoker, Willie Nelson is doing remarkable things to 'normalize' cannabis in the eyes of the American public.

If you support reforming cannabis laws, one can marvel at Willie, who, at 73 years of age, lives an honest and transparent existence regarding his enjoyment derived from decades of cannabis use. This summer alone Willie and his family hosted the first annual Willie Nelson & NORML Benefit Golf Tournament; provided VIP passes to NORML supporters for The Annual Fourth of July Willie Nelson and Family Picnic and Concert; Willie will appear on the cover of High Times Magazine and he has just released one of the most [pro-marijuana] marketed reggae albums of all times.

Review by NORML's Executive Director Allen St. Pierre

Ten years in the making, Willie Nelson's journey into reggae represents the great diversity and ability of the singer/songwriter to embrace different genres of music. This is not Willie's first foray with reggae; one of my favorite recordings from last year is the duo of Toots Hibbert and Willie performing Willie's 'Still, still moving to me'. Great tune!

'Countryman' is, at times, a dark amalgam consisting of reggae, gospel and country.

Some of my preferred tracks on 'Countryman' include Willie and Toots teaming up once again to perform Johnny Cash's 'I'm a Worried Man' and Willie's interpretations of the Jimmy Cliff classics 'The Harder They Come' and 'Sitting in Limbo'.
